Native Landscapes are primed with your local ecosystem and hardiness zone. The local pollinators have evolved with native plants leading to a perfect symbiotic relationship. Some native perennials are large when fully matured so finding the perfect plants to fit a space is always in the forefront of our designer’s minds (especially in urban environments where space is limited). Improving native biodiversity can be achieved through various steps including imitating nature, minimizing soil disturbance, being vigilant about invasive species, and landscaping with local stone. At Eco Harmony, we love our native plants as they complement the area we live, give back to our pollinators, draw on the land, and honor the history of the local area.

Formal Landscapes are geometric and structured. They often follow artistic rules of symmetry and precision. They require more maintenance than other landscape styles. This structured style calls for boxwood hedges, fountains, sitting areas, and a more rigid formal plant layout. This style, which made its debut in the 18th century, contrasts with the typical organic nature of plants and adds visual stimulation as you follow the neatly trimmed rows of hedges and shrubs with classic perennials planted throughout. A formal garden typically matches up well with a colonial-style home. Formal landscapes include a simplistic color scheme of the perennials, perfectly hedged shrubs and evergreens, patios, walls, and stonework.

Modern Landscapes often mimic the current design trends found in architecture and in the art world. They tend to be clean-lined, hard-edged, and minimalistic. Modern Landscapes utilize geometric shapes and patterns in hardscaping to compliment and highlight the native plantings and perennials selected for your home. Modern landscapes contain a monochromatic or pale color pallet and contain a limited variety of plants organized into straight-lined segments. When working with a Modern Landscape regardless of the plant species, our designers select simple plants with a distinct form.

 

Contemporary Landscapes tend to be more natural and softer in comparison to modern landscapes. They enhance what is already in place by adding plants, changing shapes, etc. In contemporary landscape, curves are welcomed but should be tamed, wooden accents are often present, and bright flowers are emphasized though they should be contained by borders and strategically placed – less is more.
