For two reasons: 1) there may be varying sunlight levels in a particular yard, and fescue grass seed does better in part shade; 2) Kentucky bluegrass takes longer to germinate – by having a blend, you have earlier coverage. After sowing the seeds, we put down straw, straw matting, or Penn Mulch, depending on the location. We then follow up with a weed preventer/fertilizer if desired.
